Hi, my High Desert friend,
What Do Authors Need?
What is the first word that came to your mind when you read that first question? Let’s see if you come up with the same answer I did to that question. Time.
Whether you are an aspiring writer, published author, blogger, member of our local writing club – High Desert California Writers Club – or just a friend, time is a life crunch.
Authors need time to write. How they manage their time depends on schedules, interruptions, social media, and technical stuff. Yes, the tech stuff. That’s the clincher.
When you are writing a chapter, editing another draft, or jotting down ideas for your next book, the last thing you want to think about is the tech stuff — or social media. I understand how you feel. Zillions of times, I have become distracted from writing because of technical difficulties with Wi-Fi service, slow Internet, computer problems, and/or mind-boggling social media marketing necessities. Oh, and let me add one more — checking endless email messages.
Perhaps, you are a writer and author but love social media (there are a few of us). Years ago, I decided to start a blog. Then I read the words, “Hello World! This is your first blog post….” I stared at the page and wondered what on earth I was going to write, terrified to think the whole world would be reading my heartfelt words. Years later, I now laugh at that naïve idea. Probably not even one person read what I wrote back then (good thing!). I made a discovery, you see, called “blog traffic.” Without it, you have no readers.
Build your blog/website/social media, and the readers will come. But how do you build it? Good question. There are a number of ways:
- commenting on others’ blogs, websites, and social media
- writing guest posts on other blogs
- take online classes
- attend workshops
- listen to free webinars and podcasts
- watch online videos
Overwhelmed yet? Marketing your book takes up an enormous amount of time. But there is hope. The people who love social media and who care about you and your writing gifts are willing to help. I’m one of those people.
What can I do to help?
If you are looking for someone to assist you with marketing, social media, blogging, or editing your book, I am available and would love to help.
On a personal note, no matter where I am, the Internet provides easy access to me. I can be reached at (760) 596-8334 (call or text), and go to my website. I’m on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
Need prices? Let me know what you need, and I will work with you. FYI, I’m offering very affordable monthly packages for HDCWC members this month.
Do me a favor? I’d love it if you would pass the word to your friends and writers who could use my marketing, blogging, and editing skills.
