Scott and Hollie on KSGN in the Inland Empire asked listeners today, “What smell is it that women love the most?” The answer: the smell of babies. One listener answered bacon. This brought laughter as someone mentioned that would be a man’s favorite smell. Know what my hubby grilled on this cool high desert evening? Chicken – and bacon-wrapped hot dogs!
I happen to love bacon, so it’s not just a man-thing about loving the smell of bacon. One of my many cousins cooks hers outside. She doesn’t like smelling up the house with the fried bacon. I’ve heard of other people who also cook their bacon on an outside stove. It’s fine with me either way.
Bacon falls in my category of comfort foods now that I think about it. Back in the day when I was a schoolgirl, my daddy was often the breakfast chef in our home. He would send me off to school with a bacon sandwich. Bread, mayo, and bacon. By lunchtime, the bacon was cold. I didn’t care, though. It tasted good to me.
This evening’s mix of bacon on the grill and cool autumn weather reminded me of a pastor who used to grill baby back ribs. He was a pastor in Minnesota, and my husband was the guest speaker. The two of them could have been twins because of their similarities. His wife and I also have much in common and both grew up in the South. What especially made me think of him this evening, though, is that no matter how cold the weather was – even in the snow – he would grill. (Twin Craig, I’m dedicating this blog post to you! Thanks for your grillin’ inspiration. Your twin has become quite the grillin’ guy.)

One of My Favorite Bacon Recipes:
1 Pkg Bacon
2 Cans Whole Green Beans
Cut bacon in thirds. Wrap a piece of bacon around three green beans, and hold with a toothpick. Place them on a long cookie sheet and bake in oven at 350 degrees for about 15-20 minutes.
