High Desert “Bitter Honey” Music at Village Grind in the Wrightwood Mountains

Bitter Honey from Phelan

Need a little R&R for a day trip near the High Desert or Los Angeles? Wrightwood Mountains makes the perfect place for a family outing. Stop in at Wrightwood’s Village Grind for a latte, breakfast, or lunch. Go on a weekend, and you might get to hear a band playing at the Village Grind like High Desert Greg and I did today. High Desert’s Bitter Honey group entertained the many patrons visiting the coffee shop. Bitter Honey members Craig and Kim mingled with the guests during the music breaks, and they were a delight to meet.

Drive up to Inspiration Point at 7,385′ elevation that overlooks Blue Ridge, Pine Mountain, Mt. Baldy, Iron Mountain, Pine Mountain Ridge, and Mt. Baden Powell. It makes a great scenic view for photos. For instance, today Greg and I visited Inspiration Point and took photos of the snow on the mountains and ice on a tree. Though very windy, I tried videoing the view with my camera.

Wrightwood, CA Inspiration Point

Wrightwood is just over an hour from Los Angeles. In fact, while we were taking photos at Inspiration Point, I met a family there that had just arrived from Los Angeles. The man said the trip was about 90 miles. They pulled up just after we arrived, and their children were happy to be outside, running around, laughing. Mountain Hardware’s website suggests the following sites for families with children (and they all have restroom facilities!):

  • Inspiration Point
  • Grassy Hollow Visitor Center
  • Peavine Campground
  • Apple Tree Campground
  • Arch Picnic Area

Mark your calendar for next Saturday, April 7th, if you want a fun day of shopping and live bands  in Wrightwood. Bitter Honey is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the Village Grind. Tell them you heard about them at High Desert Blogging from Angie and High Desert Greg. You’ll enjoy the food and coffee at Village Grind, and for any who watches the carbs, ask owners Greg and Linda about their blended or hot low-carb drinks with the heavy cream and sugar free syrups. They have about every flavor you can think of. If you request, you might even be able to order Linda’s specialty, the tasty Parmesan chips – and they are low carb chips to boot. Not watching low carbs? No worries. The Village Grind serves only delicious food from their menu. You’ll go home feeling like you truly experienced a day of R&R after a day of sight-seeing, shopping, music, and food in the town of Wrightwood.
